Unknown persons furtively broke into the Basilica of the Transfiguration to rob the holy place.

In the night between Sunday, October 23 and Monday, October 24,
unknown persons broke into the Basilica of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor.
The tabernacle, the altar of the Blessed Sacrament, on the front of the Basilica, was visibly damaged and the consecrated hosts, contained inside, were found scattered on the floor.
The ciborium was stolen, while the statue of the Virgin that hung over the tabernacle was found near the sacristy…….another sculpture of the Madonna was thrown to the floor.
Some crosses and the collection box were also taken.
The police rushed to the spot and immediately started the investigation.
A Holy Place where the Transfiguration of Christ took place before the eyes of the Apostles Peter, James and John, Tabor is mentioned several times in the Old Testament.
Haven of peace, it hosts the Franciscan friars as well as the community ‘Mondo X’, dedicated to the recovery of young people in difficulty.
